MONTH'S GAOL
MAN WHO GAVE NAME OF "PETER FRASER" -
The man who stated'his name was Peter Fraser when he was charged in the Magistrate's Court on Saturday with assaulting Gladys May Wiggins was sentenced by Mr. J. L. Stout, STM., today to one month's imprisonment with hard labour for the assault, to which he had pleaded guilty. He was Francis McLaughlin, v aged 35, a labourer. -, -. - •- ■■■•■ •,-;■■■• Senior-Sergeant G. Paine said that at 6.30 p.m. on Friday McLaughlin followed the complainant*- from Moles-worth-Street into Haw&estone Street, and at a dark place he?, grabbed her round the neck and pushed her against a wall. She got away and asked another man to see her home as she was frightened. McLaughlin was then noticed chasing another girl. He had been drinking but was not drunk. This was his first appearence before a Court.
"I had been drinking from 10 o'clock in the morning and I .don't remember the incident at all," said: McLaughlin. "I'm going to put a stpp/;tb this," remarked the Magistrate;..; in imposing sentence. '-'•;.'•'' •■
