"SPRING OFFENSIVE"

DRIVE FOR PATRIOTIC FUNDS

A spring offensive—a second fronthas been opened within the Dominion. That was the way the lion. W. Perry, M.L.C., deputy-chairman of the National Patriotic Fund Board-put it last night when he.launched a:patriotic campaign to raise the balance of half a million^ pounds of the £J,QQQiOOO required for this year to provide comforts and amenities for the men and women of the New Zealand fighting forces both in the Dominion and overseas. . * Mr. Perry described patriotism as an urge, a burning desire, to. serve one's country, in peace or war, but especially in war. The people of the Dominion could serve by joining in the campaign. He asked them to emulate the offensive spirit of the New Zealand forces overseas, to think of them every day, and of the joy that is given to men who have been in battle to receive parcels from home. A gunner from Leeds in England had said: "You've got v to hand it to the Kiwis. They always do a great job." "You, too, you people of New Zealand, must do a great job; you, must prove yourselves worthy of them," said Mr. Perry . "Now is your opportunity. You are invited to join in this offensive on the home front You are invited to give with an eager generosity. If you have not already given, give,, now. If you have already giyen, give" again.
