(Rec. 2.20 p.m.) OTTAWA, August 2. After consulting the British and American Governments, it has been considered best for Canada to maintain her Charge d'Affaires at Vichy, and also to maintain the French Legation at Ottawa.

The Prime Minister, Mr. Mackenzie King, making the announcement in the' House of Commons, said that some reasons for the decision cannot be disclosed, but the feelings of the French people was one consideration which was taken into account. He added that Canada has no regard for Laval, who was considered to be the mouthpiece of Germany.
