EXCITEMENT AT PARK

PETONE AND, ARMY DRAW

Tho biggest crowd that has attended a club match .at Athletic Park this season took advantage of Saturday's fine weather to see Petonc, unbeaten leaders in the Wellington Rugby Union's Jubiiee Cup competition, meet a strong Army (earn which included a number of provincial representatives. An added attraction lay in the meeting of the two St. Patrick's Colleges in the curtain-raiser. Tho main match resulted in a draw, 16-all, after a display which featured fast and exciting football. Both teams scored eight points in each spell, and all Petone's points were scored by their centre-three-quarter, Stanley Jaeger, who was at the Hutt Valley High School last year. Although marking tho brilliant and experienced Army captain, Donovan, Jaeger played an outstanding game. In other matches Poneke-Oriental held second place on the ladder by beating University, and wins- were also scored by Hutt, Marist Brothers Old Boys, and Wellington, Seatoun notching their first 'championship point by holding Wellington Collcgo Old Boys to a draw. Two matches went by default in the Hardham Cup . competition, the others being won by Wellington Regiment and Miramar.
