COAL SHORTAGE
COKE PLENTIFUL
The shortage of coal for supply to householders in Wellington and suburbs was referred to today by Mr. W. J. Mountjoy, secretary of the Wellington Coal Merchants and Dealers' Association. He said that there had been and was a very limited supply of coal available for retailers to distribute, and this had no doubt caused some inconvenience to householders. There had also been a limited supply of firewood for distribution, while on the other hand, there was a plentiful supply of coke. "It appears," said Mr. Mountjoy, "that householders generally are not fully aware of the value of coke as a fuel for heating and cooking purposes. Coke can be profitably used in ranges for cooking purposes when mixed with coal, and likewise makes a good fuel for heating purposes in registered grates. Any householder experiencing difficulty in securing coal or wood fuel for cooking or heating purposes should ask their local dealer to supply coke, which is at present available to meet all demands."
