SEA ROAD OPEN

PUKERUA BAY SLIP

The main road at Pukerua Bay, which was covered by a slip when the railway washout occurred, is now open, for traffic again. The Automobile Association reports that a man is in charge at the spot to direct traffic, but extreme care will be necessary until the road is back to normal. It is no longer necessary to take the Paekakariki Hill route. Train traffic in and out of Wellington is still affected by the break in the Main Trunk line, which may not be repaired for some days. Passengers are being transhipped. In the meantime perishable goods only are being received for Wellington, Petqne, Lower Hutt, and Upper Hutt stations. The Wairarapa line is under a great strain at present, working the 24 hours through. _________________
