This evening her Excellency Lady Newall was present at the St. John Ambulance Hall, where the St. John Women's War Committee entertained the next-of-kin of New Zealand prisoners of war.

His Excellency the Governor-General presided at a meeting of the Executive Council this morning.

Mr. Jacob Elliott, a member of the Railways Superannuation Board, is visiting Wellington.

Colonel F. L. G. West, V.D., Northern Regional Commissioner, arrived today from Auckland.

Wing Commander G. E. Nicholls, Dominion Commandant of the Air Training Corps, arrived from Auckland today.

Mr. E. G. Bridgens and Mr. W. R. Sweetapple, of Auckland, arrived at Wellington today to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Conference.

Mr. Hendry Luke, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, arrived at Wellington today from the north.

Advice has been received by Mrs. L. Lewis, of The Tei*race, that her son, Flight Lieutenant Ronald E. Lewis, D.F.C, R.A.F., has been promoted Squadron Leader. He left Wellington in 1938 for England to join the R.A.F.
