EXTENSIVE DAMAGE
NAZI BATTLE-CRUISER
OUT OF ACTION FOR A LONG
TIME
LONDON, June 29
Photographs taken by the R.A.F. over Gdynia show extensive damage to the German battle-cruiser Gneisenau, and make it clear that she will be out of action for a long time to come.
Three turrets housing 11-inch guns are being dismantled, and one can be seen standing on the quayside. Thirty feet of the forecastle deck has been affected, and the stern is hidden in camouflage netting. The damage was done when the Gneiseriau was at Brest, in the race up the Channel, and while at Kiel. To get the ship further away from British bombs, she was moved from Kiel to Gdynia, but major repairs cannot be done there, and she must tje either moved back or remain out of commission.
Experts say that repairs will take a very long time.
