WAKE ISLAND RAIDED

DEFENCE FOUND WEAK

LONDON, June 29. United States bombers have raided Japanese-occupied Wake Island, in the Pacific. The raid was made on Saturday in favourable weather, and airfields and shore installations were attacked. Enemy anti-aircraft and fighter defnece was weak, and although one bomber suffered minor damage it got home safely. This is the second time Wake Island has been attacked. The first raid was made by United States warships and planes on February 24.
