LIGHTING PRECAUTIONS
In a recent reference to the present restrictions upon lighting in the city and suburbs, the Mayor, Mr. Hislop, made it clear that the further reduction involved nothing more in regard to residences than the enforcement of the existing drawn-blind regulations, and the proper observance of existing traffic light regulations. On one night further restrictions were enforced and vehicles were stopped and required to put out lights, said Mr. Hislop, the requirements of wardens bringing about practically full black-out conditions, but in justice to the wardens concerned, in the Island Bay, Vogeltown, and Berhampore district, it should be made known that they had acted upon instructions given them in error by an official. The wardens, accepting that instruction, not from an E.P.S. official, as correct, devoted themselves to full enforcement of emergency requirements. Their action was correct, said Mr. Hislop, and they were to be commended for their zeal, though the instruction given them was in error.
