The tendency of the authorities to take over school buildings for defence or health purposes without exploring the possibilities of alternative accommodation, was commented upon by the chairman of the Wellington -Education Board at its meeting yesterday. -Mr. Dyer said that the Education Department had taken a helpful attitude m the matter, and there was now a clear understanding of the precise conditions under which buildings would Ibe handed over. Of course, alj possible assistance would be' given the defence and health authorities, and in the case of emergency there might not be time even for formalities. The board decided to have a return furnished of all unused school buildings, with a view to handing them over to the defence authorities for the duration of the war.
