Hon. J. G. Coates arrived in Wellington from Auckland today. Mi\ C. R. Gribble, secretary of the Auckland Transport Board, is in Wellington.

The Rev. F. L. Smart, of St. Albans, Christchurch, has accepted the call to the pastorate of the Shackleton Road Baptist Church, Mount Eden. He will commence his ministry in September.

Councillor R. Fox was last evening appointed deputy chairman of the Petone E.P.S. Mr. Fox, in accepting the position, expressed regret that Mr. J. T. Carr, who had done such excellent service, could not occupy the position owing to the regulation requiring the position to be held by a borough councillor. The council passed a resolution of thanks to Mr. Carr for his services.
