VICEREGAL. Government House, Wellington, ; June 16. His Excellency the Governor-Gene-ral was present at a meeting of the War Cabinet this morning. Her Excellency Lady Newall was present at a meeting of the standing committee of the National Patriotic Council. I The Minister of Labour (Mr. Webb) I will return to Wellington this evening from the South Island. The Minister of Supply (Mr. Sullivan) has returned to Wellington from the South Island. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates arrived in Wellington from Auckland today. Mi\ C. R. Gribble, secretary of the Auckland Transport Board, is in Wellington.
The Rev. F. L. Smart, of St. Albans, Christchurch, has accepted the call to the pastorate of the Shackleton Road Baptist Church, Mount Eden. He will commence his ministry in September.
Councillor R. Fox was last evening appointed deputy chairman of the Petone E.P.S. Mr. Fox, in accepting the position, expressed regret that Mr. J. T. Carr, who had done such excellent service, could not occupy the position owing to the regulation requiring the position to be held by a borough councillor. The council passed a resolution of thanks to Mr. Carr for his services.
