TWO ENEMY ATTACKS FAIL

(Rec. 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 1. Fighting on; a large scale has broken out in the Kalinin sector. ; The GermanSjj concentrated large forces of tanks and infantry on a narrow front and launched two attacks, but the Russians counter-attacked and drove the enemy back beyond their original lines, recapturing several villages. LONDON, June 1. There is a temporary pause on the Kharkov front, but Moscow reports that much savage fighting is going on here and there. Throughout the rest of the Russian front there are local, attacks by both sides. In a Berlin fcroadeast today a Luftwaffe pilot praised the work of the big Russian tanks around Kharkov. He said that these tanks had stopped the German attempt to push the Russians back. Another Russian weapon which he praised was the 2-inch mortar.
