PURPOSE OF LOAN

MR. HOLLAND'S APPEAL

Everyone who was in a position to do so should be proud to pay his or her share towards the internal cost of the war, said the Leader of the Opposition (Mr. Holland) last night. Mr. Holland said he hoped the Liberty Loan would be oversubscribed. "The -whole of the £15,000,000 will be spent inside New Zealand, so not only will it help to meet our war costs, but it will also help to keep the wheels of industry turning and our production of war-supplies at a high level," said Mr. Holland. "To oversubscribe this loan would be a great gesture to Britain and the United States, which have sent and are sending us millions and millions of pounds' worth of tanks, bombers, fighters, guns, and ammunition, and practically all of this without our having to find the cash. . • AN UNMATCHED OPPORTUNITY. "We are prosperous because Britain is paying us such good prices for our produce; we are protected by British and American warships; ws are defended also with the aid of equipment produced in other countries. The Liberty Loan gives us an unmatched opportunity, and the privilege of showing our men in Syria, the Pacific, ■ and elsewhere, and our men who have been called to the colours on the home front, that we are' ready and willing to play our part on the financial front at home. The boys overseas and on the home front will be encouraged and inspired-to hear that this substan-. tial backing has" been so cheerfully provided."
