CHINESE COUNTERMOVE

(Rec. 1.2.45 p.m.) CHUNGKING, May 18. Chinese reinforcements, pouring across the Salween for attacks on the Japanese around Lungling and Teng-yeuh, have completely removed the Japanese threat to the important Burma Road city of Paoshan.

Forty thousand Chinese evacuees from Burma have arrived at Kunming, causing serious congestion. Cholera, dysentery, and malaria have broken out.
