PEOPLED TERRIBLE PLIGHT

LONDON, May 4

A Greek officer in London has described the terrible plight of the Greek people. He said that in Athens and the Piraeus people were dying in the streets of hunger. From October to February 40,000 people starved to death in the Athens area alone. Germans and Italians received enormous prices for food in the black market, and he had known of a loaf of bread being sold for £4.
