ANZAC DAY

REDUCED CEREMONIAL

This year's Anzac Day proceedings in Wellington are to be curtailed to a short and simple ceremony at the Cenotaph at 11 a.m. As the clock in the Government Buildings commences to strike 11 a whistle will be sounded and a twominutes silence will be observed. At the conclusion of the two minutes' silence, the whistle will be sounded again, and the laying on ofr wreaths will commence. The following will take part in this ceremony: The Prime Minister, the Mayor of Wellington, the British High Commissioner, the Canadian High Commissioner, the Australian Trade Representative, the Consuls for Allied and neutral countries representatives of the Fighting Services, the New Zealand Returned Services Association, the Wellington Returned Services Association, and the Returned Nurses' Association. Bearers of wreaths should be at the main entrance, Government Buildings at 10.50 a.m. A prayer by his Lordship the Bishop of Wellington and the sounding of the Last Post and Reveille by a band of trumpeters under the conductorship of Mr. F. C. Chegwin will conclude the ceremony. It is regretted that the many institutions and schools which in the past have laid wreaths will be unable to do so on this occasion, as it is desirable to shorten the proceedings and to prevent the congregation of a large crowd at the Cenotaph. Any persons or organisations desiring to place wreaths are requested to do so after the 11 o'clock ceremony is concluded. A wreath will be placed on the Cenotaph in the Petone Recreation Ground at 10 a.m. by the executive of the Hutt Valley R.S.A. A similar ceremony at :he Cenotaph in Lower Hutt Recreation Ground will follow, after which the committee of the Hutt Valley R.S.A. will proceed to the Taita Soldiers' Cemetery to pay homage to the memory of their departed comrades. The usual ceremonies will be held at all schools in the Wellington Education Board district. The executives of the Wellington and Hutt Valley Returned Services Associations invite citizens to place flowers or wreaths on soldiers' graves in their own district. Solemn Requiem Masses will be celebrated on Anzac Day in all the Catholic churches, Archbishop O'Shea presiding at. that in St. Mary's at 9 ajn. There will also be the usual parade of Catholic returned soldiers.
