FAREWELL TO 7PROMOTED

OFFICER

Miss A. E. Bates, Lady ' Divisional Superintendent of the Wellington Nursing Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, was tendered an official farewell at a recent 'meeting of the division. Miss Bates having been promoted to the district stcf*. Among the guests were' Miss M. H. McKnight (Lady District Superintendent) and Mrs. R. G. Wilson and Miss E. K. Hay (Lady District Officers) and past members of the division.; ■-. Miss McKnightrand :Mrs. Wilson, both past superintendents of the division; spoke in .appreciative terms of the _ work arid. time. Miss Bates has already put in with brigade work and also took the opportunity to welcome her rto the district staff. Miss Bates was presented with a bouquet by Ambulance Sister Doreen Boyd. a Grand Prior cadet.: ■ ■■ ■ Ambulance Officer Miss H. M. Walker j spoke \pt the wonderful work Miss Bates had done as officer and as Superintendent of the Wellington Nursing Division, and mentioned that Miss Bates had qualified for a bar to her service medal, representing 17 years' efficient service with the brigade. Miss Walker said that, although it was with a feeling .of gr,eat regret the division was losing its superintendent, they felt very proud that Miss Bates had been chosen to serve on the district staff, making the fourth successive superintendent and the fifth officer of the • division to be promoted to the rank of Lady District Officer. As a token of the esteem in which she is held by the officers and members of the Wellington Nursing Division. Miss Bates was presented with a handsome morocco handbag and a fountain pen.
