Miss Jean Beattie, "The Downes," Lauder, Otago, is visiting Wellington., Miss Eleanor Pharazyn, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. Cecil Teschemaker, Fendalton, Christchurch. Miss Constance Macdonald, Hawke's Bay. visited Wellington this week for a meeting of the Australasian Society of" Operatic Dancing. Miss May Pateman. who was evacuated from one of the Gilbert Islands three days before the 'Japanese invasion, is touring New': Zealand as the London Missionary^ Society's annual deputation. She is at present visiting Dunedin, and is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Sinclair. / Mrs. Guthrie presided,at the recent meeting of the Mothers' Helpers, Wellington, when those present included Mesdames Bayfeild, Reid, Brown, Palmer, Ward, and Turner. Donations from Mrs. Henry Hall and Miss S. Nathan . were gratefully received. It was decided to hold a jumble sale in the near future, and contributions will be welcomed by the \ secretary, Miss F.
