ANGLING SEASON

ADVERSE CONDITIONS

The angling season now drawing to ariose has been.a peculiar one. In favourable conditions, anglers have had fairly good; sport, and some limit bags have been taken, but for most of the season the weather has been adverse. Rivers have been top fuil and coloured for fly fishing for a much longer period of the season than is commonly experienced. The angler in a position to choose his day, with a high glass, sunshine, and not too much wind, however, almost invariably had good Ashing. One fisherman has taken*--150 trout so far this season Jn/".ffie' 'district. The Manawatu andß&ngitikei Rivers have been most^ disappointing, chiefly due to too ..much rainfall, but the smaller streams adjacent to them have offered 'better fishing. In the Tokorriaru and Tiritea streams the fishing has been good. ' v . The Wainui has fished well, producing more than one limit. Most bags have included some fairly heavy fish. The Hutt River has suffered more than most from flooded conditionsThere have been few days free from wind when the river has been clear and low. In the earlier part of the season and during part of March, some, good bags were taken. Night fly, fishing has been satisfactory. The Whakatikei has rewarded active and energetic anglers. There are always bends in this sheltered river free from wind, and some nice fish have been taken there. The Mungaroa has fished well when conditions have been reasonable, and so have the Waingawa (well up its I course), and the Hutt River in the upper gorges.
