HEAVY RAIN ON WEST COAST

(0.G.) .-. WESTPORT,'ApriI'I2. Stonejr Creek, at Arapito, was the scene of the bursting of a dam formed by slips which occurred "during the Murchison earthquake. It gave way with a roar which wis heard over two miles away.

The water carried away an empty house which was on the bank of the creek and littered the neighbouring farms with silt and boulders. A bridge and about a quarter of a mile of road were also swept away. !* In 12 days, the rain in Westport ; totalled 12.62 in.
