RATION BOOKS
SUBURBAN DEMAND
At all the suburban post offices last night the demand for ration books was large, but the opposite was the
case at the Chief Post Office, where at no time was there a rush. The Wellington postal district has 120,000 ration books to issue out of a Dominion total
of 1,500,000, and a fair quota of this number was issued yesterday. The distribution of ration books must be completed this week. Pressure of other work and short staffing makes it impossible for post offices to deal with the issue of ration
books during ordinary hours, hence the nightly opening solely for ration book issuing; between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. It is only at special issuing points, such
as that in, the State Fire Office, Lamb-
ton Quay, that ration books can be obtained during the day. Arrangexnents, however, have been made for country post offices to issue the books at any time during the day in order to save settlers haying "to make trips to the post office at night. It is essential that when application is made for a ration book the appli-
cant's social security book is produced at the same time. One person can oolv lect ration books for other members of the family, provided he or she is armed with all the necessary social security books. ■
