PETONE'S FINANCES
A credit balance of £3834 17s 6d was shown in the Petone Borough Council's balance-sheet presented at a meeting of the council last night. This represents an increase of £229 17s Id over last year's credit balance. Receipts from the Memorial Bathing Pavilion and the McKenzie Baths amounted this year to £127, as agrinst £186 last year. The Deputy Mayor, Mr. A. M. Macfarlane, put this 'own to the poor weather experienced during the summer.
It was stated that a serious decline in some items of revenue and increased costs during the current year, along with E.P.S. and air-raid shelter expenditure, would tend to make the year a most difficult one from the financial point of view.
Tom Whakatomo Timu, farm labourer, aged 25, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court today to a charge of breaking and entering and theft at Te Aute on March 8. Mr. Justice Ostler admitted him to probation for two. years, on condition that he repays £15 at the rate of 10s a week and keeps in force a prohibition order for the probationary period.
