AWARD TO AIRMEN

(Rec. 2 p.m.) LONDON. April 13. The New Zealand-born Acting Squadron Leader Arthur Mitchell Paape has been awarded a bar to the D.F.C. He participated in the attack against the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau arid scored a hit from 450 feet on an escorting destroyer.

He flew back to his base with his bomb doors open and his turrets out of action, his petrol leaking and hydraulic brakes and. trimming gear damaged and useless.
