AUSTRALIA'S DEBATE

(Rec. noon)

SYDNEY, April 13.

The Minister of National Emergency Services, Mr. Heffron, said he was cabling to New Zealand for details of the methods used in the Dominion for dealing with fire-bombs. He was commenting on a message from New Zealand that there the public were advised to use buckets of water to deal with bombs. In Australia it is emphasised that only a fine spray of water should be used on a fire-bomb. An official of the Sydney ITire Brigade said that firemen who turned a jet of water on a magnesium bomb "to demonstrate that it war the wrong thing to do" had to wear coloured glasses because the' resultant white flash was too powerful for the eyes. The bomb could not be put into a bucket unless it is picked up within half a minute of landing.
