CONVOY TO MURMANSK

INCESSANT ATTACKS

BY GERMANS

(Rec. 1 p.m.) LONDON, April 13

A big convoy of British, American, and Dutch merchantmen arrived at Murmansk after fighting their way through the Germans' attempted air and naval blockade.

The Stockholm correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" says that German long-range bombers based on northern Norway incessantly attacked the convoy in the Arctic Ocean.

Berlin reports claim that bombers set fire to two freighters and damaged a third.

German warships were not in action against the convoy, which was guarded by the strongest naval escort used in this war, adds the^ correspondent. The strength of the escort fulfils the promise by the British Admiralty to increase the protection for convoys bound for Russia as the Arctic winter darkness passes.

The convoy took to Russia a large supply of United States. Canadian, and British tanks and fighter planes for the Russian spring -campaign. As the convoy approached Murmansk six patrolling Soviet fighters intercepted 15 German dive-bombers protected by 13 Messerschmitts. A Russian communique says that three of the German planes were rammed in mid-air and that the. rest made off.
