GENERAL HOMMA'S COMMAND

(Rec. noon.) NEW YORK, April 13.

Tokio official radio quoted an Imperial headquarters announcement today that Lieut-General Homma had been appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Japanese expeditionary forces in the Philippines.

[Homma's suicide was persistently reported to General Mac Arthur from various sources regarded as reliable last month. In any event, today's announcement of General. Homma's appointment to command of the forces is strange in view of the fact that his appointment to this post was made at the outbreak of war.]
