OTAKI RIVER

(0.C.) OTAKI, April 13. The Otaki River has recently made inroads into Mr. S. Elliott's property at Rangiuru and overflowed its banks, and frequently floods the road, which is now in a bad way. The main bridge at Rangiuru is in danger, and has been closed to vehicular traffic. In the upper reaches of the river ; the big groyne has been badly} damaged, and the river now- threatens to damage the Rahui road, the racecourse, and the milk depot, and with a big flood will endanger parts of the town. The risk of a severe flood is recognised, and the settlers are much perturbed. Some £300 has been collected* towards preventing further damage, but a much larger sum is needed.
