HONG KONG OUTRAGES
SOURCE OF EVIDENCE
(Rec. 9 a.m.) LONDON, March 26.
The report of the outrages in Hong Kong was based partly on information derived from Miss Harrop, of the office of the Colonial Secretary for Hong Kong, and partly on information obtained from other reliable sources, stated Mr. Anthony Eden in the House of Commons.
A Washington message says that the State Department, announced it had received reports from official American sources in the Far East "fully confirming Mr. Eden's recent statements about the outrageous treatment of the captured population of Hong Kong by the Japanese."
A Chungking- message says that the Japanese authorities have imposed a blockade on the foreign populated sections of • Shanghai in the effort to terrorise persons sheltering Chinese guerrillas, whose activities are becoming increasingly troublesome.
The blockade has resulted in a severe food shortage in the French concession.
