NEW STATE FIRE BUILDING
The plain dignity of the exterior of the State Fire and Accident Insurance office extension building fronting Stout Street, is reflected in the interior, where, the -company has moved in. The head .office on the sixth floor is now distinct from the accident office on the fifth floor, and the old building is occupied entirely by the Wellington branch staff. In the latter building lighting has been greatly improved. Lighting and airiness are the two chief features of the interior of. the -new building. The greater part of the outer wall of each room is devoted to windows, while the light well in the centre helps the lighting in the inner rooms.
The rest of the big new building will be devoted to other Government De-, partments when the fittings are finished. Smooth walls and plain furniture provide no dust-retaining surfaces; in fact, the interior furnishings, while attractive, are essentially modern and practical.
