N.Z. MISSION
RECAiStiNG WAR
STRATEGY
(0.C.) SYDNEY, February 25. | New Zealand Ministers, Messrs. Coates and Sullivan, and Service chiefs are sharing in vital discussions with the Australian Advisory War Council and Service Chiefs of Staff on the defence of the two countries* It is believed that the presence of the New Zealand representatives indicates a re-. casting of strategic plans, providing for the closest liaison between Australia and New Zealand. / The new situation has arisen as a result of the loss of Singapore and Malaya, which necessitates complete recasting of Australia's strategic plans. Whether Japan will continue her southward drive, or swing her main strength north against Burma, will not be clear until the battle for the Indies ends. But the Federal Government is determined to have everything ready should an attack develop against Australia.
The steady increase in Japanese air activity in the waters around Rabaul indicates that the enemy is establishing a strong base there. This would be a convenient jumping-off place for attacks against Australia, New Zealand, or Pacific trade routes.
