FATHER DEAD AT SON'S

(P.A.) WHANGAREI, This Day,

Victim of a tragic shooting involving mistaken identity on the part of his son, Steven Urlich, of Houhora, died at the Mangonui District Hospital, Kaitaia, this morning.

: Although suffering from a grievous abdominal wound, he had been able.to converse freely with his sons and other members of his family and with the police. He confirmed fully the version of the tragedy given yesterday, and it is mderstood . that independent witnesses corroborated the story of a practical joke with terrible consequences.

The late Mr. Urlich was one of the best-known Dalmatians in the north. He was a man of massive physique.

The story told yesterday was that Urlich ■ was returning home in the darkness and was mistaken by a son aged 16§ for a trespasser. Intent on playing a practical joke on the boy, he did not reply when his son called out to him. The boy became frightened and went, for a shotgun..
