Neither would be suitable for steeplechase racing, and the fate of the Grand National Meeting is uncertain. If Riccarton is not available in August an alternative appears to be to apply for a transfer to Washdyke. Course Inspector. . Major George Petre Wymer, who died at Northwood, Middlesex, recently, was. head of the Jockey Club racecourse personnel, which was, in effect, the C.I.D. of the racecourses for England, Scotland, and Wales. He was largely responsible for smashing the gangs which infested the racecourses after the last war. > It was in 1925 that Major Wymef was given the task of organising the Jockey Club's private police force, which acts in co-operation vfrith Scotland Yard. The organisation consists largely of ex-policemen. Major Wymer served in the Boer War, in ! which he won the D.C.M. and a commission, and in the Great War. He went to France in 1914, was wounded, and taken prisoner.- •
