THE DANGER AREAS

EVACUATION PLANS

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, February 23

"It should reassure many people in the town and country 'to know that emergency regulations dealing' comprehensively with the evacuation of civilians from danger areas are now being drafted," said the controller of evacuation for Auckland, Mr. C. J, Lovegrove. .

"When I was in Wellington last week I discussed the matter with the Director of National Service, Mr. Hunter. When the draft is completed it will be submitted to the responsible authorities of the Emergency Precautions Service for perusal."

The present intention, Mr. Lovegrove continued, was to empower chief wardens in rural areas to impress premises for the billeting of evacuees. Chief wardens in, cities would be vested with comprehensive powers regarding evacuation and provision would be made for fixing billeting fees. It was not possible to go further into detail at this stage, but he had every confidence that regulations would provide means of dealing with all problems likely to arise if evacuation on any scale became necessary.
