GERMANS IN LIBYA
MORE RESISTANCE TO BRITISH PATROLS
LONDON, February 23
General Rommel appears to be gathering strength in Lihya, and there are signs that he is preparing for heavier fighting on the line beyond Timimi-Mekili which he has now held for some time.
Axis troops are being moved up to Timimi from Martuba, 25 miles southeast of Derna.
Resistance to British patrols in the forward area has stiffened/ and there is increased enemy air activity. The British ground forces have had ■ air support. There has beery heavier enemy resistance to the patrols. Cairo reports that the British air forces yesterday made a number of fighter sweeps in support of land forces, and that bombers attacked positions in the rear.
