COMMERCIAL
AUSTRALIAN SHARES
"CEILING PRICE" TO BE
FIXED
'Hi' Telegraph--I'ies*. Association —CopyrUthi 1 (Rec. 9 a.m.) CANBERRA, Feb. 23.
The Commonwealth Government has arranged with the Stock Exchanges of Australia to fix a "ceiling price" for stocks coming on to the market, in order to ensure that the prohibition on trading will not result in intense competition and the rocketing of prices for the relatively few stocks that may be placed on the market to meet demands of taxation or probate.
The Treasurer. Mr. J. B. Chifley, stated that this plan would be given a trial, and if found not satisfactory, then the Government would fix the prices of shares.
