STRENGTH IN AIR
GREATER IN BURMA
TROOPS HEARTENED
LONDON, February 20. There are reports of greater Allied air strength in Burma. The Rangoon communique reports increased air support for British troops in their counter-attack on the Bilin River. The communique says that successful air action has had a considerably heartening effect on our troops. Fierce fighting has continued in the last 24 hours behind the Bilin River and our forces made repeated local counter-attacks throughout yesterday. The Rangoon Air Force communique says our bombers and fighters carried out a number of attacks yesterday on enemy positions, stores, and transport in the Bilin River area. Normal reconnaissance flights were also made over enemy territory by the R.A.F. and the Indian Air Force. Enemy air activity over Burma was on a reduced scale. No bombs were dropped, though warnings were sounded in two towns in central Burma. Earlier today it wa's stated that casualties had been heavy on both sides on the Bilin River front but that, our main positions were believed to be intact.
