HORTHY RETIRING

HUNGARIAN REGENT

i(Rec. 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 16. The Hungarian Regent, Admiral Horthy, is retiring, and Parliament is to meet on February 19 to elect a successor. Nicolas Horthy de Nagybanya was born in 1868 and educated at the Fiume Naval Academy. He joined the Austro-Hungarian fleet in 1886 and was A.D.C. to the Emperor Francis Joseph

in 1914. Later he. was promoted Admiral and Commander of the Fleet. He was Commander-in-Chief of the national • army occupying the capital after the breakdown of the Communist dictatorship in 1919 and the Rumanian occupation. He became Regent in March, 1920, with sovereign rights, subject to certain restrictions.
