X-RAY SERVICE
-«&> SCHEME EXTENDED Amendments to the Social Security (X-ray Diagnostic Services Regulations, the main purpose of which is to provide a further extension of X-ray services by making ava'lable the services of radiologists possessing their own plant, were gazetted last night. Up to the preseni the service has been confined to public hospitals. The Minister of Health (Mr Nordmeyer) said that there were two classes of radiologists brought into the scheme under the new regulations. The first were those who possessed a small plant and did a limited amount of radiological work, and these would be entitled to claim from the Social Security Fund the same amount as hospital, boards. The second class were specialist radiologists, who would be approved for all classes of work and who would receive a higher sum from the Social Security Fund, though this would not be in full settlement of the patient's account. Generally speaking, ithe amount which the patient would be entitled to receive from the fund would be about half the specialist radiologist's fee. The Minister said it was hoped that this extension would relieve to some extent the very great pressure on the existing hospital X-ray work.
