GIANT BOMBER

DETAILS OF SHORT STIRLING

LONDON, January 26.

Though the giant four-engined Short Stirling bomber has been prominent in operations for over a year, its details have just been released.

. It is the world's heaviest aeroplane and weighs more than 36 tons. Fully laden it can carry a bomb load of more than eight tons.

It is 87 feet long, has a 99-feet wingspan,'and is 23| feet high. It carries a crew of seven, also three gun turrets in which are mounted a total of eight Browning guns.

Its maximum speed is approximately 300 miles an hour and its range is over 2000 miles.

Though it is such a giant, the Short Stirling is easy to manoeuvre and often chases German fighters, who will not tackle it unless they number at least three to one.
