ACTION IN PACIFIC

BRITISH PRESS DEMAND

SINGAPORE DEFENCE

(By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright.) (Rec. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Jan .12. The London Press is demanding British action in the Pacific and says that Singapore must not fall. The "Daily Mail" complains that the British public is being told very little about the Malayan campaign and what it is being told seems purposely vague. "We believe Singapore can be held, hut we fear it will not be held unless the Government adequately understands its importance and the enemy's strength," says the newspaper. "General Wavell must be given reinforcements—adequate troops, ships, and planes—above all planes. "The British public is entitled to an immediate assurance that this will be done."
