LONDON, January 12. More Russian gains are reported in the latest news. On the Eastern Front the Russians continue to advance in a number of sectors and several places have been taken after fierce fighting. A Soviet communique says that three enemy planes were brought down near Moscow. The hardships being endured by the German soldiers in Russia are referred to by the Berlin correspondent of a Swedish newspaper. He says that the strain on the invaders is affecting them, they are often frozen and the insides of tanks become coated with ice. Owing, to the intense cold, the Germans have been unable to make their weapons w rk. The German High Command is taking special measures to safeguard the health of the troops. The correspondent says the Germans have begun a winter war against death.
