IMPEDED BY R.A.F.
BUILDING OF U-BOATS
REPORTS IN BRITAIN
LONDON', January 7. Although Germany has succeeded to some extent in increasing her submarine production, her aims in this direction have been impeded by the R.A.F. This fact emerges from reports reaching the Ministry of Economic Warfare which state that armament production in Germany has fallen slightly below the peak level
reached last spring,
There is evidence that there is no falling-off in German tank production. Germany is also turning out more planes, and planning to turn out still more.
It is added that in the occupied countries there is nothing like a full realisation of armament production.
TRANSFER OF SUBMARINES
It was pointed out in London today that the recent transfer of U-boats from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean was probably due to the marked effect of British naval operations on the Libyan campaign. Another possible reason is that owing to the more effective defence of the convoys, U-boats in the Atlantic are not paying a dividend.
It would be a mistake to conclude that the morale of German U-boat crews is on the decline. Recent British successes, it is thought, are due rather to the efficiency of our attacks than to any failure of the Nazis.
