EXCHANGE OF MESSAGES

(Eec. 1 p.m.) RUGBY, Jan. 7. Replying to wishes for the New Year, sent by the Free French leader. General de Gaulle, "for the success of the armies and people of Russia, whose valour has killed the myth of German invincibility," M. Stalin sent the following cable:—"l thank you for your cordial message on the occasion of the New Year. Accept my best wishes for yourself and your troops and all Free Frenchmen who are fighting against the German or Italian oppressors for a France which shall be free and independent."—B.O.W.
