FAT STOCK MARKETS
Business was resumed at various stock sale centres after the holiday period, according to Press Association dispatches. Addington reports that store sheep, mainly lambs, sold remarkably well in comparison with fats. Best lambs made 20s to 21s sd, but these were taken for freezing. Best rape lambs sold 16s 6d to 19s. Two-tooth wethers sold up to 20s sd, and two-tooth Romney ewes to 20s. Fat lambs sold above export competition for heavy sorts at pre-holiday sale, but eased to improved schedule rate of B£d per lb for 36's. Schedule just about maintained. Fat sheep improved by up to 2s, but ewes came back to export schedule. Exporters bought ewes freely at 10s to 11s, and kept market from slipping. Best wethers sold 27s to 295, a few reaching 32s 7d, and medium from 24s to 26s 6d. A few ewes reached 20s. Best ewes ranged from that figure down to 16s 6d, medium' 12s' 6d to' 14s 6d, and export down to 10s. Fat cattle prices slipped by 20s to 25s a head. Good steers made from £14 10s to £16 10s, and a few extra prime to £17 17s 6d. Average £12 to £13 10s. Heifers £10 to £11 10s for best, medium £8 10s to £9 15s, and best cows from £9 10s to £10 15s. Good beef 35s 6d to 38s per 1001b, a few pens to close on 40s; medium quality and heavy from 32s 6d to 35s per 1001b. Fat pigs saw heavy entries, and a decline of 5s to 7s a head for porkers, prices being from £2 3s 6d to £2 12s 6d, and average 6d to 7d per lb. Baconers easier by ss. Prices £3 3s 6d to £3 10s, and the average 5d to 6|d per lb. Westfield prices included extra choice ox to 40s a 1001b; choice and prime, 37s to 395; secondary and plain, 33s to 355; extra young cows and heifers, 32s to 365; choice and prime, 29s to 31s; ordinary cow beef, 24s to 28s; extra steers, £14 10s to £15 10s; heavy, £13 15s to £14 ss; lighter, £13 to £13 10s; light, £11 to £ 12; small and unfinished, £8 10s to £10 10s; extra young cows and heifers, £9 to £12; heavy, £8 to £8 15s; lighter, £6 10s to £7 10s; others, £4 to £6.
