ADVANCE TO STATE £2,000,000
The Christmas note issue for the week ended December 29, 1941, amounted to £24,614,930, an increase of but £15,625 on the return for the week ended December 22, and compares with £22,667,273 for the week ended December 30, 1940. Sterling exchange, which has been rising gradually of late, reached £13,293,676, an increase of £370,880 over last week, against £12,506,598 for the corresponding week of last year. Advances to the Marketing Department at £6,003,467 show a fall for the week of £223,262. Advances to the State for purposes other than marketing stand at £19,500,000, a rise of £2,000,000, comparing with £23,690,000 for the week ended December 30, 1940. The record was £25,140,000.
