BULGARIAN FRONTIER

NAZI READINESS FOR TROOP MOVEMENTS

LONDON, January 5

Information from Bulgaria regarding military preparations, and concentrations of troops shows that the situation is apparently the same as it was a month ago, says the Istanbul correspondent of "The Times." Everything is in readiness along the TurkishBulgarian frontier for the reception and passage of large mechanised forces. Skeleton German formations and technicians are waiting in Bulgaria, but there is no sign so far that German or Italian units are being dis: patched to Bulgaria.

An outbreak of typhus in Rumania is wreaking havoc among soldiers and peasants. This calamity, following the great losses of the Rumanian army in Russia, plus the nervousness over the recent Russian successes, has compelled the Germans to tighten their control over the Rumanian administration for fear of a popular rising against General Antonescu.

The Stockholm correspondent of "The Times" says the Germans have further restricted railway traffic in Poland and the Ukraine in connection with their plans for a rearrangement of German man-power for the winter, particularly of troops who can be withdrawn from the Russian front lines. Thei German Press says that the restrictions practically eliminate nonmilitary traffic from all the railways converging on Galatia.

There is no authoritative confirmation, the correspondent says, that the railways have been cleared for transporting troops to the Balkans for recuperation or other purposes.
