TRAP AT CHANGSHA

GREAT JAPANESE LOSSES

(Rec 11.30 a.m.) CHUNGKING, January 6. A military spokesman announced that 40,000 Japanese troops had been caught in the Chinese trap on the' plains between the Laotao and Luinyang Rivers, north-west of Changsha.

It is estimated that the Japanese suffered 30,000 casualties in the battle before Changsha. The spokesman asserted that only 30,000 of 100,000 Japanese escaped. ' "

The Domei news agency claims that the Japanese have completely occupied Changsha.
