DUTCH SUBMARINES LOST
RUGBY, January 6. The loss of two Dutch submarines, one of which" was operating with the British East Asian Fleet, is reported in a Dutch East Indies communique broadcast from Batavia.
The communique also stated that enemy planes had been observed at several points and that one had dropped a number of bombs on a jetty on an island in the Natuna archipelago.— 8.0. W.
DR. VAN MOOK IN AUSTRALIA
(Rec. 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 6. The Lieutenant Governor-General of the Netherlands East Indies, Dr. H. J. Van Mook, has arrived here. He will go
to Canberra tomorrow for discussions with Ministers on matters of mutual interest following the announcement of the. unified command in the southern Pacific. (Rec. 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 6. Dr. Van Mook said that he had proposals to place before the Commonwealth Government which were directed towards ensuring that counterattack against Japan was launched from a point "as far north as possible."
