DEFENCE OF TOBRUK
K.B.E. FOR BRITISH
COMMANDER
LONDON, January 6,
Major-General Leslie JTames Morshead, the Australian commander at Tobruk during the seven and a half months' siege, has been made a K.B.E. for his gallant work.
He is 52 years old, and took part in the offensive which drove the Italians out of Cyrenaica a year ago. In the German counter-offensive he led
his men practically unscathed from Benghazi to Tobruk. For seven and a half months inside the town he not only defied the enemy but made persistent attacks.
Major-General Morshead had a distinguished record in the last war, and in this war he has already received the Polish equivalent of the V.C.
